New Hot Yoga Flooring for Kitsilano & West End

October 16, 2012 8:37 am

By the end of October our Kitsilano and West End studios will be sporting brand-new flooring that promise to improve your practice and give you a better workout! How can a carpet do all that? Read on to find out … and to learn about upcoming studio closures.

Just like the flooring found in several California-based Bikram Yoga studios, our Kits and West End locations are getting the royal treatment with EcoSolution nylon carpet tile from Shaw Floors (checkout their website). This state-of-the-art carpeting will be a BIG improvement over the current floors at Kits and West End … here’s why:

1. GET A GRIP:

Why is carpet the only officially approved surface for Bikram Yoga studios around the world? Simple: nothing gives you a better grip. Slipping and sliding around in a puddle of your own perspiration, as you can imagine, is neither safe nor conducive to performing the postures properly. Carpet gives you the grip you need to take your practice – and your workout – to the next level.

2. FEEL-GOOD FLOORING:

Made from 45% recycled content, Shaw’s EcoSolution nylon carpeting – a natural insulator – will help save energy in the hot room and stand up to the daily wear and tear of a busy yoga studio. Not only that, this carpet features a high-performance, moisture-resistant EcoWorx backing that offers exceptional antimicrobial protection by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, fungi and other nasty micro-organisms.

3. SAYONARA, SMELL:

Worried about the off-putting odour often associated with a carpeted studio? We’ll solve that problem by turning the air exchangers at either studio on for four hours each night, giving our new carpets a chance to dry out completely on a daily basis. The result: better-smelling studios!

Studio Closures

In the words of British writer Arnold Bennett: “Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.” To install the new flooring, our studios will be closed on the following dates:

  • Kitsilano Studio closure (installing new floors and addressing heating issues) Friday, October 19 – Sunday, October 21, 2012
  • West End Studio closure Friday, October 26 – Sunday, October 28, 2012

We apologize in advance for the inconvenience, and remind students that they can visit any of our other locations during these closures for a full offering of classes.
