La La Land Comfy Wear

The name La La Land represents the feelings of happiness, joyfulness and silliness. Finding their highest happiness in the Bikram Yoga room, La La Land Comfy Wear was created by marrying a love of yoga with a love of fashion and the knowledge of what is really needed in a hot yoga practice.
While doing her Bikram Yoga teacher training it became very clear to Paula Morgan, owner and designer, that there was a need for fun, colorful, yet functional and well-made clothes. When Paula returned home to visit her family in Brazil she went to talk with some manufactures that she knew and started working on creating some designs and exploring fabrics. Paula is committed to high quality products and customer service. Many of the fabrics used are limited editions and when they are out they are out so the designs are truly unique!

LP Studio Line

 

Named LP Studio Line after Bikram Yoga Vancouver’s owner Lisa Pelzer, the new line is designed in VATA Brasil’s Vancouver studio and blends the label’s signature Brasilian flair, cuts and colours with Pelzer’s expertise and understanding in yoga practice.
“People who practice Bikram yoga are very demanding of their clothing and have very unique needs,” said Lisa Pelzer, owner and director of Bikram Yoga Vancouver. “VATA Brasil and its designs are exactly the product we’ve wanted for our licensor company, Besos Enterprises. “Given the popularity of yoga world-wide, this kind of label can have tremendous impact and appeal, all based from the Vancouver studios of VATA Brasil and Besos Enterprises.”

Naa Sheeka (West African Fashion)

 

The Bags
Naa Sheka bags are convenient, with a shoulder strap, an outer pocket for your cellphone and keys and plenty of room inside for your yoga mat. They’re unique, patched together with wax-printed cotton fabric or repurposed cotton flour sacs from West Africa, so no two bags are alike (they’re also lined with nylon, which forms the perfect waterproof (aka sweat-proof) barrier for those damp yoga mats post class).
That’s not all. Naa Sheka bags are socially conscious, too, providing workers in Ghana, where they’re made, with jobs and fair wages. Plus, the company donates a portion of its profits to Bless the Mic – an organization committed to uplifting the lives of Ghanaians through music, spoken word and entertainment.

The Material
Naa Sheka currently carrys two styles of bags; both are 100% cotton. The first is made with a traditional type of Ghanaian textile, which uses wax to prevent the coloured dyed used to pattern it from reaching all parts of the cloth (the wax also gives the fabric a nice “shimmer”). The second is created from re-used flour sacs; according to the company, some of the bags arrive in Canada with traces of flour still clinging to them (don’t worry – the one you buy from BYV will be gluten-free)!
It’s recommended that you care for your Naa Sheka bag by hand-washing it every so often and hanging it to dry.
The Founder
Naa Sheka Riby-Williams (“Nash” to her friends) was raised in White Rock but went to university in Ghana, where her dad was born. While in that country she fell in love with the warm spirit of the people – and their clothing. She was so inspired by the detail, style of fabric and the traditional textiles she saw that, when she returned to Vancouver, she decided to start her own fashion label, designing clothes and yoga bags. Nash, a Bikram Yogi herself, understands what details are important to add to her products, like the nylon lining inside every Naa Sheka bag that forms a waterproof (aka sweat-proof) barrier for those damp yoga mats post class.

Native Shoes

 

Launched in 2009 by locally owned Native Shoes, their Blanca line of sandals is perfect for getting to and from the yoga studio! These sandals are vegan, washable, waterproof, and odor resistant! Shakti Active Wear

 

 

So what makes Shakti so “Om”-azing? Every top, short and legging is made with the highest quality Lycra and Airfit Microfiber fabrics, which cling to your body, absorb “excess moisture” (that’s a nice way of saying sweat) and allow heat to dissipate quickly, keeping you cooler. The Sweatshop


The Sweatshop label is hand-made by Judy Lei in Vancouver. It’s been around for 2 years, and it started off as a fun project to make strapless tops for Judy’s yogini teachers and friends. The Sweatshop is just a one person company and she keep it fairly simple. Judy don’t make pants, tops with straps, stuff for guys, and she won’t hem your pants. She’s kinda like those Japanese ramen places that only sells ramen, but they make the best ramen in town. Most of the money Judy makes from The Sweatshop goes towards paying her vet bills. She says beagles are douche bags that likes to eat random things off the floor – like dead rotting fish…with a fish hook still stuck inside it.

  • Judy likes to make her bandeau tops longer so that her customers have the option of folding them down on the top to provide extra elasticity under the bust to help support the “ladies”. Some of them are reversible… just depends on her mood that day
