Suffering from a case of the yoga bunions? We’ve got some tips for you!

Q: I’ve been practising Bikram Yoga for five years. Recently, in the past month or so, Awkward Pose and Toe Stand have been aggravating my bunions. Knowing that this yoga is meant to be a healing practice, I wonder if I should skip these postures … or will the pain eventually go away if I keep at it? Does anyone else suffer from the same issue?

A: Before avoiding the postures, try changing the weight distribution on your foot off the bunion area. It seems odd that it is bothering you now, after five years of practice. Could it be something else that’s aggravating the area, like new shoes? If the problem persists, then definitely avoid the poses in question for the time being – then try them again at a later date.
